World Press Freedom Day was observed across the    globe on - 3rd May

 On 3rd May 2016, World Press Freedom Day was observed across the globe, theme of this year was "Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms - This Is Your Right!".

Panel appointed by Supreme Court to   reform Medical Council of India - RM Lodha-panel 

Among Important Panels, On 2nd May 2016, Three-member panel headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) RM Lodha was appointed by Supreme Court of India to oversee the functions of Medical Council of India. Medical Council of India is a regulator of medical profession and education in India.

Other two members of this panel are former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai and Dr SK Sareen.

This appointment was done by Supreme Court after reports of a government panel and a parliamentary standing committee indicted the MCI for various malpractices.


 Name of application launched by Railway Ministry to monitor Railway projects - PMIS

On 3rd May 2016, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched e-enabled application, Project Management & Information System (PMIS). It was launced at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi with an aim to proper monitoring of all the Railway projects throughout the country.
This system will have all the required information of ongoing projects as there are 60 major projects are going on which are costing more than 4.5 lakh crore rupees. This project will help in proper monitoring and timely completion of projects.

80 countries to attend World Humanitarian Summit


Image result for World Humanitarian Summit Around 80 countries may attend the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul this month to re-think how to confront global crises created by the Syrian Civil War.

·        The UN under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs Stephen O'Brien said that around 45 countries will be represented in the Summit by their heads of state or heads of government.
·        World governments, international organisations and aid agencies are struggling to cope with the largest refugee crisis since World War II affecting six crore people on the move.
·        The three-day gathering will seek to chart a course with new strategies to address humanitarian crises and the rising cost of aid efforts, said O'Brien.



Sachin becomes Rio Olympics Goodwill

·        He joins Salman Khan and former Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra as Goodwill Ambassadors for the Indian contingent.


IMF retains India growth forecast at 7.5% for 

2016-17


Image result for imf·  India remains the fastest-growing large economy in the world, the International Monetary Fund has retained its growth forecast for the country at 7.5 percent for this year.

·   The IMF said, growth in Asia and the Pacific is expected to remain strong, at 5.3 per cent, this year and the next. But China and Japan continue to face challenges.

·   China's growth is forecast to moderate from 6.9 per cent in 2015, to 6.5 per cent this year.
