Seven agreements signed between India & South Korea

The agreements signed are

i. The Double Taxation Avoidance Convention signed in 1985 has been revised with a view to avoiding the burden of double taxation on taxpayers in the two countries.

ii. Agreement signed to cooperate in audio-visual co-production, which would enable co-production of films, animation and broadcasting programmes.

iii. The two nations also signed a MoU for cooperation between the National Security Council Secretariat of India and the Office of National Security of South Korea.

iv. Another MoU was signed on cooperation in the field of electric power development and new energy industries.

v. The two nations also signed a MoU to strengthen and encourage cooperation on youth matters through participation in events and activities through exchanges, international conferences, seminars, youth camps, festivals etc.

vi. The two sides also signed Framework of Cooperation (FOC) in the Field of Road Transport and Highways.

vii. The MoU on cooperation between the two countries in the fields of maritime transport and logistics including through sharing of technologies, information and experiences, the training of seafarers, exchange of experts and port operations etc was also signed.

India, China signed agreements to boost ties in trade, economy, education.

The agreements signed are


  • In the field of Railways which will enable India to seek Chinese cooperation to introduce high speed rails on Delhi-Nagpur Sector, and increase track speed on Chennai-Benguluru-Mysore route. As part of MoU, China will also extend assistance in establishment of Railway University in India.
  • Agreements were signed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade and investment and other fields and for establishing relationship at the provincial, city and municipality level between India and China.
  • Agreement to open consulate General offices in Chengdu and Chennai to facilitate trade and economic engagement and people-to-people exchanges.
  • Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and China’s Fudan University signed an agreement for establishment of Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies at Fudan University and Yoga College in Kunming.
  • Agreements to enhance increase cooperation in the field of vocational education. It will facilitate China to extend assistance in establishment of vocational training institutes in India.
  • An action plan on cooperation in setting up of the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in Gujarat.
  • Both nations also signed Space Cooperation Outline for 5 years.

Lok Sabha passed the Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2014

Main Highlights of the Bill


  • It provides for constitution of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council by inserting Article 279A in the Constitution. 
  • The Council will recommend to the Union and States on the inclusion and exclusion of goods and services.
  • It proposes an additional tax on supply of goods, not exceeding one percent, in the course of inter-State trade will be levied and collected by the Union for a period of two years and apportioned to the States.
  • The net proceeds of additional tax on supply of goods, except the proceeds from Union Territories, will not form the part of Consolidated Fund of India.
  • It provides for the compensation to the States for loss of revenue arising on account of implementation of GST for a period of five years.
  • It subsumes all the Central indirect taxes, levies and Central Sales Tax and State Value Added Tax and Sales Tax.
  • It covers all goods and services except alcoholic liquor for human consumption for the levy of GST.

 About Visakhapatnam :

  • Visakhapatnam is 163-metre-long vessel and weighs approximately 3000 tons and is entirely made of Indian steel.
  • It can have maximum speed of over 30 knots at a displacement of approximately 7300 tons, it is propelled by four gas turbines.
  • It has many modern weapons like advance Action Information System (AIS), Integrated Platform Management system (IPMS), sophisticated Power Distribution System (PDS) and a Combat Management System.
  • Israeli Multi-Function Surveillance Threat Alert Radar (MF-STAR) is also a part of this which will help it in targeting information to 32 Barak 8 long-range surface-to-air missiles on board the warship.
  • Visakhapatnam will be having 8 BrahMos missiles on it.
  • Apart from this it also have four 30 mm rapid-fire guns and a MR gun for naval gunfire support.
