South Asian Basketball 2015 Championship was won by - India

  • Among the Sports Current Affairs, On 5th July 2015, India won South Asian Basketball (SABA) Championship title by defeating Sri Lanka at the final held in Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karanataka. 
  • This win has given advantage to India as India has qualified for the FIBA Asia Championship in China which will be held in Sep 2015.

 UNESCO declared Champagne Hillsides, Houses and Cellars of France as World Heritage during the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Bonn, Germany which was chaired by Maria Bohmer, Minister of State at Germany's Federal Foreign Office.

Unwed mother can be child's guardian without father's consent was ruled by - Supreme Court

 Supreme Court of India ruled that an unwed mother can be the sole legal guardian of a child without the consent of the father and court also said that it was not required of the mother to disclose the identity of the father. This was ruled by the Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Vikramjit Sen while hearing a plea by an unwed mother.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Sunday announced that it will be launching five British satellites on July 10 and it will be the biggest ever commercial mission by the Indian space reasearch centre.

  • This day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4th July 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire.
1st Saturday of July  is International Day of Cooperatives.
  • This day celebrates the co-operative movement observed on the first Saturday in July since 1923 by the International Co-operative Alliance.

BSNL launched its mobile wallet SpeedPay.

  • The service was launched by Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
  • It comes with a cash withdrawal option so you can use it to send money to other people who can then use SpeedPay to withdraw cash from a bank even without an account.
  • Customers will be charged a 1% transaction fee for transferring money to a bank account of withdrawing it. 
  • There will be no charges for wallet to wallet transfers and while the daily limit for cash withdrawal is Rs 5,000 in the case of verified customers that can go up to Rs 1 lakh. 
  • Currently BSNL has tied up with Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank to roll out the service.
