Union Commerce Ministry launches e-marketplace portal for goods procurement

The Union Commerce Ministry has launched an e-marketplace portal for online purchase of goods and services by various central government ministries and departments. It was launched by the Union Minister of State (MoS) Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi.
Key Facts
The e-marketplace portal has been developed by the Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D). The e-marketplace portal aims at bringing in more transparency and streamlining the government procurement of goods and services. Using this, portal all the government departments and ministries can procure goods and services. It will help to aggregate demand which will lead to lower prices, better choices and faster procurement.




UNESCO names 'World Heritage Sites in Danger'


·        UNESCO declared five 'World Heritage Sites' in Libya to be in danger, citing damage caused by the conflict in the country as well as the threat of further damages.

·        The Historic Centre of Shakhrisyabz in Uzbekistan, the Old Towns of Djenné in Mali and Nan Madol in Micronesia were also declared 'World Heritage Sites in Danger


Amazon Founder is the world's 4th richest person

·        Bezos, who launched Amazon on July 16 1995, ranks behind Bill Gates, Zara's Amancio Ortega, and Warren Buffett.

·        The 52-year-old is also the founder of aerospace company Blue Origin and owner of Washington Post newspaper.


Terrapin 3 Acquisition Corporation acquires Yatra Online for $218 mn

·        Yatra Online, Inc. and Terrapin 3 Acquisition Corporation entered into a definitive merger agreement. The transaction values Yatra at an enterprise value of 218 million dollars (1458 crore rupees).


·        Yatra in its statement said that it intends to be listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol "YTRA" following completion of the transaction.

·        The combined company will continue to be led by Yatra's experienced management team under the leadership of chief executive and co-founder Dhruv Shringi.


Army
 gets India-made Dhanush guns for user trial


·        Three indigenously-developed 155 mm 'Dhanush' artillery guns have been handed over to the Indian Army for user trial by the Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory.


·        Dhanush, a howitzer with a strike range of 38 km, has been developed using the design documents delivered to India as part of the Bofors gun deal, another official said.

Vijender wins Asia Pacific Super middleweight title

·        Indian professional boxer Vijender Singh became the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion after defeating Australia’s Kerry Hope in New Delhi by unanimous decision.

·        Playing in his first professional bout in India, Vijender maintained his unbeaten record in professional boxing with a seventh consecutive victory.
·        With the win, Vijender will break into WBO's top 15 world rankings.
