India inks Project Collaboration Agreement with WHO to promote traditional medicine 

Among Important National Current Affairs India has signed a historic Project Collaboration Agreement (PCA) with World Health Organization (WHO) for cooperation on promoting the quality, safety and effectiveness of service provision in traditional and complementary medicine.
The aims of PCA are to supporting WHO in the development and implementation of the ‘WHO Traditional and Complementary Medicine Strategy.

Key Facts  About PCA-

• For the period 2016-2020, PCA will contribute to the global promotion of traditional Indian Systems of Medicine.
• PCA will deliver for the first time WHO benchmark document for training in Yoga, and WHO benchmarks for practice in Ayurveda, Unani and Panchakarma.


Anil Kumble re-appointed ICC Cricket Committee chairman

Image result for anil kumbale iccFormer India captain Anil Kumble has been re-appointed ICC (International Cricket Council) Cricket Committee chairman for a second term of three years. Earlier he was appointed as the chairman for his first term in 2012 and now he will continue to head the panel until 2018.Anil Kumble is all-time highest wicket-taker for India. 

Other appointments 
Besides, former Indian Rahul Dravid was also named member of the ICC Cricket Committee. 
Former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene also has been appointed member. 
Former Australia off-spinner Tim May has been elected as current player representative and shall replace Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, who has completed his three-year term. 
Three-time ICC Umpire of the Year Richard Kettleborough also has been appointed as umpires’ representative in the committee. 
ICC Cricket Committee is representative of all stakeholders in the game of cricket, including players, umpires and the media. It is empowered to make recommendations on cricket playing issues to the ICC’s Chief Executives’ Committee (CEC) and, if the matter is a policy matter, the ICC Board for approval

Justice Naveen Sinha sworn-in as Chief Justice of - Rajasthan HC

Among Important National Current Affairs, Justice Naveen Sinha has sworn in as the 31st Chief Justice of Rajasthan.
Image result for naveen sinha chief justiceAs per the provisions of the Article 219 of Constitution, Naveen Sinha was administered the oath to the office by Governor Kalyan Singh.
As per provisions Article 222 of Constitution, Naveen Sinha was appointed by President Pranab Mukherjee after following recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) T.S. Thakur.
Since July 2014, Prior to the transfer, Justice Naveen Sinha was Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
Know About Justice Naveen Sinha - 
• Naveen Sinha obtained LL.B. degree after completing a bachelor’s degree in arts.
• In 1979, Naveen Sinha had joined bar and had practised for 23 years primarily at Patna High Court.

NITI Aayog to replace 5-year plans with 15-year vision document

Union Government’s apex think tank NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog has decided to come up with a 15-year vision document in tandem with global trends and economic growth. NITI Aayog which had replaced erstwhile Planning Commission (PC) in 2015, with its 15-year vision document will also abandon the concept of five-year plans prepared by the PC since 1951. 

Key facts 
  • The first 15-year vision document will come into effect from 2017-18 after the end of the 12th Five year plan. It will be formulated with central objective of eradication poverty. 
  • It will come along with a seven-year National Development Agenda which will lay down the programmes schemes, and strategies to achieve the long-term vision 
  • The long vision document (perspective plan) will comprise of three-year macroeconomic framework. 
  • The framework will predict growth indicators that will be synced with the 14th Finance Commission recommendations. 
  • It will also be coterminous with the UNDP’s 2030 sustainable development goals to which India is committed to meet broader social objectives. 
  • The 15-year vision document will also include defence and internal security. They were not been a part of five-year plans. 
  • The NITI Aayog will also create a dashboard for monitoring, evaluation and review of the implementation of vision document.


Fatma Samoura named first female secretary 

general of FIFA Council


Senegalese UN diplomat Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura (54) has been named as Secretary General of FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) Council. The announcement in this regard was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the 66th FIFA Congress held in Mexico City. With this, she becomes first female to be named as Secretary General of FIFA Council. 

About Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura 

Image result for fatma samouraSamoura is serving as United Nation’s Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria. She has rich experience of 21 years with United Nations. 

She had started her UN career in 1995 as senior logistics officer with the World Food Programme in Rome, Italy. 

Since then she has served as UN country representative or director in six countries, namely Djibouti, Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, Madagascar and Nigeria. 
Before joining UN, Samoura had worked in the private sector for eight years. 
She had worked in the fertiliser trading sector for Senchim, a subsidiary of Industries Chimiques du Senegal.


India's first spice museum to open in Kochi

  •  The Spice Board of India is going to set up the country's first spice museum at Willingdon Island in Kochi to let travellers know about the history and evolution of the Indian spice industry.
  • The museum, built on land given by the Cochin Port Trust, will display over 30 raw spices and culinary herbs.



Axis Bank appoints Sanjiv Misra as Non-Executive 

Chairman


· Mumbai based Private sector lender Axis Bank has appointed retired bureaucrat Sanjiv Misra as independent director and non-executive chairman for a period of five years.

· The chairman is being appointment by the bank and not nominated by SUUTI for the first time. The S
UUTI entity has more than 11 % stake in the Bank.

·In a string of appointments the bank elevated Rajesh Dahiya and Rajiv Anand as executive directors.

·Prior to his new stint Misra was earlier the SUUTI nominee on the board as Non-Executive Chairman for three years till 11th May 2016.
