  • Indian Boxer Shiv Thapa attains No.2 spot in World Rankings

Image result for Indian Boxer Shiv Thapa attains No.2 spot in World RankingsAce Indian boxer Shiva Thapa has attained second rank in the latest international rankings of boxing in the56 kilogram category.
He ranked second with total 1,550 points in the 56 kilogram category, becoming the highest-ranked Indian boxer. He has moved up by five places from the previous list of rankings.
Shiva had won a bronze medal at the 2015 World championships. He was next best-placed Indian at sixth position in the 75kg middleweight division.
The top spot in the 56 kilogram category was occupied by Michael Conlan from Ireland with total 2150 points, who had won the gold medal at the 2015 World Championships.
Rankings of other Indian boxers
  • Satish Kumar was placed at the seventh spot in the rankings for super heavyweight (plus 91 kilogram) category.
  • L Devendro Singh who is Asian Championships silver-medallist was placed at the 13th spot in the 49kg category.
  • Former Asian gold-medalist Sumit Sangwan was placed 18th in the 81 kilogram division with 450 points.

Michelle Payne has become the first female jockey to win Australia’s most prestigious horse race Melbourne Cup 2015 worth 6.2 million dollars.
Payne achieved this feat after she rode New Zealand-bred Prince of Penzance to a famous victory in the race.
She is also the 4th female jockey to ride in the Cup during its 155-year history which is dubbed as Australia’s richest and most prestigious horse race.

About Michelle Payne

  • Payne was born on 29 September 1985.
  • She had won in her first race at Ballarat aboard horse named Reigning.
  • Her first Group One race win was the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield Racecourse aboard Allez Wonde in October 2009. She was the third female jockey to ride in this cup.
  • In 2010, she won the Thousand Guineas, aboard Yosei at Caulfield Racecourse.

About Melbourne Cup

The Cup is one of Australia’s most prestigious Thoroughbred horse races. The race distancing about 3200 metres is conducted annually on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria by the Victoria Racing Club.


  • China’s Parliament ratifies AIIB agreement

Image result for China’s Parliament ratifies AIIB agreementChina’s Parliament has ratified the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) agreement which establishes the legal framework for the Bank.
The ratification by China, which is the bank’s largest shareholder is considered significant step closer to the AIIB’s formal establishment.
Earlier in June 2015, 54 founding members of the bank had signed the 60-article agreement provides the legal framework for Institution of AIIB. While, the remaining members are expected to sign before the end of 2015.
It is mandatory for all prospective members of AIIB ratify the agreement before the end of 2016 by their respective top legislatures to formally become its founding members.
It should be noted that India is also a founder member of AIIB which is tasked to finance infrastructure development projects across Asia.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)

  • Established to finance infrastructure projects including energy, transport and infrastructure projects in Asia.
  • AIIB is seen as a rival to the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) which managed by most prominent countries like US, Japan and European etc.
  • Headquarters: It will be operational by end of 2015.
  • Authorized capital: It will be of 100 billion US dollars. The initial subscribed capital will be around 50 billion US Dollar and the paid-in ratio will be 20 per cent.

  • Surojit Chatterjee appointed as Senior Vice President of Flipkart

Homegrown e-commerce giant Flipkart has appointed Google’s executive Surojit Chatterjee as Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Experience and Growth.
In the new role, he will be responsible for all Flipkart’s consumer experience across desktop as well as mobile and will directly report to Chief Product Officer (CPO) of company Punit Soni.
Prior to this appointment, Chatterjee for last 8 years was working at Google and his most recent post was the global head of Mobile Search Advertising and AdSense for Search (AFS).
He is also the founding member of Google’s mobile search ads. He had helped the search engine giant to make mobile search ads a growth engine for Google which had led into a multi-billion dollar business.
Chatterjee holds a BS degree in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur and MS in Computer Science from SUNY Buffalo. He also holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and is credited with total 33 granted US patents to his name.


  • Next Chief Justice of India: Justice T.S. Thakur

Image result for Next Chief Justice of India: Justice T.S. ThakurJustice T S Thakur (63)  will be next Chief Justice of India. His name has been recommended by current  CJI Justice Dattu. Current CJI Justice Dattu will retire on December 2, 2015. Presently, Justice Thakur is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court. He would be the 43rd CJI.

About Justice Thakur

Justice Thakur was born on January 4, 1952 and enrolled as a Pleader in October 1972. Later, he started practising in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. His father D D Thakur was an eminent advocate who became a judge of J& K High Court and later also as a union minister.Justice Thakur worked in Karnataka High Court, Delhi High Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court. He worked as Chief Justice of both Delhi High Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court. Later on November 17, 2009, Justice Thakur was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court. He would retire as CJ on January 4, 2017. Justice Thakur was head of the bench, which dealt with IPL spot-fixing scam. He was also head of the bench which is monitoring the probe in the Saradha chit fund scam case.
