•  Bronze medal at 6th Senior ART Gymnastics Asian Championships - Dipa Karmakar

         bronze medal at the 6th Senior ART Gymnastics Asian Championships at Hiroshima, Japan was won by Ace Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar.
She stood at Third place with 14.725 points. She has also won the bronze in 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
  • First place : Yan Wang  with 14.988 points(China)
  • Second place: Sae Miyakawa with  14.812 points(Japan)

  • Railways to launch prepaid auto, cab service at 2 city stations on 3rd August,

  • Indian Railways will soon launch prepaid taxi and autorickshaw services at  railway stations through its subsidiary Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
  •  This announcement was made by The Centre in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
  • The IRCTC will provide online cab booking facility for 26 stations across the country under a pilot project.
  • It will also set up prepaid booths at these stations. Online bookings will be done through   the IRCTC website while booths will be set up in consultation with the traffic department.
  • It will be a railway venture and closing the service will need an approval from the Union railway ministry.
Rural Development Minister launched ‘SAMANVAY’ for Gram Panchayats

  • Rural Development Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh
  •  on 4 August 2015 launched SAMANVAY, a compilation of all schemes of both Union and State governments for Gram Panchayats. 
  • SAMANVAY was launched with an aim to help MPs in utilising relevant schemes in the planning and implementation of Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY). 
  • It will also act as a database for mapped and compiled information on various gram panchayat activities through schemes undertaken by the Centre and State Governments.
  • More than 1800 state schemes from across all states have been documented in SAMANVAY.
  •  Besides, the Singh also launched 'Panchayat Darpan' magazine to monitor the progress of the    Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. It will act as a mirror of all the development activities in the village panchayats.
  • Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana was launched in October 2014 under which MPs are to develop three Adarsh Gram Panchayats by 2019. The objective of the programme is to create Model Villages.
Maharashtra government increased the retirement age of medical officers from 58 to 60

on 4 August 2015

  • The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet in Mumbai and will be implemented with retrospective effect from 31 May 2015.
  • This means that the relaxation will be provided for all those who retired on 31 May 2015.
  • The state government also decided to award special increments to officers holding post graduate diplomas and degrees to ensure availability of sufficient human resources to provide health services.

193 UN members reached agreement on sustainable development agenda

  • The 193 member states of the United Nations on 2 August 2015 reached agreement on a new Sustainable Development Agenda for the next 15 years.
  •  It calls for eradicating poverty and hunger, achieving gender equality, improving living standards and taking urgent action to combat climate change.
  • UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the plan seeks to ensure peace and prosperity. 
  • With this agreement, the document called "Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" will be adopted at a UN summit just before the annual meeting of world leaders at the General Assembly in September 2015. 
  • The summit will be held between 25 and 27 September 2015 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
