  • Saina Nehwal became the 1st Indian shuttler to win silver medal in World Badminton Championship

In 1983 edition, Eminent shuttler Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to win a bronze.   • 2015 Gujar Mal Modi award for innovative science and technology was won by - Prof. Mustansir Barma
Prestigious Gujar Mal Modi Award 2015 for Innovative Science and Technology was won by Prof. Mustansir Barma. Vice President of India Hamid Ansari presented him with the award.

Barma has made massive contribution in the field of Statistical Physics in India. He is a former Director of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and is also a distinguished Professor.

Gujar Mal Modi Award was started in 1988 in the memory of industrialist Gujar Mal Modi by GM Modi Foundation. Every year on 9th August, the award is presented to a scientist of distinction, who has made remarkable contribution to science & technology and includes a cash prize of 2.01 lakh rupees, a silver shield and a scroll of honour.
In the year 1988, Prof. Satish Dhawan for his contribution in the field of space and Remote Sensing Technology received the first award.

Bengaluru-based customer relationship management software company HomeBuy360 was acquired by Mumbai based Real estate listing portal Housing.com in all cash deal of 2 million US dollars.
This deal will help in reduction of property prices finally gaining the consumers. With this procurement, Housing.com is now the only online real estate listing platform to own a developer CRM company.

It is a cloud-based sales lifecycle management platform company which connects buyers, agents and developers.
About Housing.com
It was established by 12 students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay in 2012 and is a real estate search portal with around 6000 brokers and serves in 40 cities across India.

  • Fisheries Policy, 2015 was approved by - Odisha Government

 Odisha Fisheries Policy, 2015 was approved by Odisha Government to increase the productivity and production of fish from marine resources, brackishwater and islands.
The policy aims at a production of 7.15 lakh tonnes fish till 2019-20 with the present production rate of 4.13 lakh tonnes.
Highlights
  • Fisheries Policy wants to enhance the inland fish production to about 5.30 lakh tonnes in the next 5 years.
  • 3.5 tonnes per hectare fish productivity is aimed to be increased.
  • By 2020, 15000 hectares of new ponds and tanks will be constructed for freshwater aquaculture in 30 districts producing a direct employment for about 60000 people in the state.

  • State Capital Region Improvement of Power System scheme was approved by - Odisha government
a 1500 crore rupees State Capital Region Improvement of Power System (SCRIPS) scheme was approved by Odisha government for five years.

Key features of the scheme :
  • 24x7 quality power will be supplied to the people of the state capital of Bhubaneswar.
  • The project predicts restoration, expansion and modernisation of the existing transmission and distribution infrastructure.
